A year after it was published in In 2009, I brought a copy of The 12-Step Buddhist to offer my teacher in the Tibetan Tradition, Lama Zopa Rinpoche. His office had endorsed the book warmly. I’d explained to my teacher that people were coming to me for help, so what should I do? Lama leaned over to me and with one eye looking at me and another into oceans of emptiness, he said, “Teach them about compassion!’ I didn’t realize that when it comes to gurus, be careful what you ask for, because you just might get it.

More than a decade later, and through more than four years of wrestling with the concept, it suddenly became clear in the Fall of 2021. I began rewriting from page zero point zero until there were over 400 pages and I had to stop. The hardcover is already as thick as the AA Big Book. I had to spend a couple of years in isolation, desperately trying to manage severe PTSD and depression with nearly 25 years without a drink. Well, I’m here to report that it works if you work it. And it don’t when you don’t.

To that end, recovery readers who are interested in deep healing will want to focus on specific issues, perhaps touched on briefly in the main book. The first title in the Compassionate Recovery Guide Series will be available by end of summer 2022!

Thank you so much for reading and remember, free ebooks of everything in the Compassionate Recovery series will always be available for anyone who needs them!
