Who Answers?

Hi there. I’m a researcher and psychologist from the Recovery Research Institute at the Massachusetts General Hospital. My work focuses on community-based recovery supports and social technologies. Naturally, I’m interested in learning more about online recovery communities. The people who engage with them, what participation looks like, and how they impact recovery processes and outcomes are of deep interest. We anticipate this will lead to science-based recommendations that help more people get into, and remain in recovery long-term. Learning more about how people use online recovery communities now enables us to make people’s lives better in the future.

So why are we reaching out to you all?

We’ve just launched a new study and we’re asking for your help! As someone who uses In The Rooms, you may be eligible to participate. We are seeking In The Rooms Members for paid participation with The Recovery Research Institute.

If you’re interested in participating, there’s a link below where you can determine if you’re eligible. Study participation involves three online questionnaires that you’ll complete independently on your own time. This includes an initial questionnaire, one 3 months after the first questionnaire, and another 3 months after the second questionnaire. They’ll take 60-90 minutes each to complete. You would be compensated with gift cards to Target, Walmart, or Amazon.  You will receive gift cards to the value of $30  for the first questionnaire, $50 for the second, and $70 for the third.

To participate, you would answer questions about your experiences on In The Rooms as well as questions about your substance use and treatment history. While you’d be able to complete these questionnaires on your own time, we’ll communicate with you via email to give you access to the questionnaires and send you reminders. You’ll also always have an opportunity to reach out if you have questions about your participation.
