About Suws Of The Carolinas
SUWS of the Carolinas is a proven leader in therapeutic wilderness programming for adolescents ages 10-17 who are struggling with mental health disorders, addictions, developmental concerns, and behavioral challenges. We offer an integrated strengths-based program that addresses the biological, psychological, and social needs of adolescents by using evidence-based therapeutic interventions. Situated amidst the mountains and streams of the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina, we have the unique opportunity to provide residential treatment that is truly free from the distractions of everyday life. Treatment takes place both on our campus and on multiday wilderness expeditions in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We maintain a 3:1 student-to-staff ratio in each treatment milieu to keep the group sizes safe and manageable. Throughout their time in treatment, students have a chance to participate in traditional therapeutic interventions like individual and group therapy while also engaging in team-building activities, enjoying time on challenge courses, visiting with our therapy dogs, and learning and practicing basic survival skills that can help instill a sense of confidence in their ability to succeed.
