Some of you know I’ve been writing for many years about my road to recovery on a holistic level. I’ve opened myself up to the entire world and what fell out from the deepest parts of myself sometimes surprised even me. I’ve found no surer way to wellness than to be creative.

So if you didn’t already know, here on InTheRooms.com we also have a sister site called Iloverecovery.com. Since my experience has been so life enhancing, I thought there would be no better way to give back than to give other people an opportunity to explore what writing and creativity can do for their recovery journey. Many of us create, but not so many of us have a chance to have others see our work.

My vision for this website is to inspire and empower the very talented people in our InTheRooms.com community who may be hiding in the shadows. Believe me, I know how enormous submitting something to be published seems and how remote we feel our chances are at being successful. I want this website to be an expression of the individual and the voice of the artist to be heard loud and clear. This is an opportunity for us to talk about the reality of our lives outside of meetings. I also would love to give other forms of expression a platform whether it be through art or music or any other creative genre – the possibilities are endless.

Submission is open to everyone. It is not specific to any fellowship or recovery path. It will encompass all recovering people, no matter what your circumstance or situation. This is about creating community and individual empowerment and show the world that behind every story is a real person. Please don’t be shy about coming forward. YOU matter too. My intention is to support and encourage not reject and belittle.

Everyone has something unique to offer, so don’t compare your work with anyone else. You have a wealth of wisdom, knowledge and experience inside you that the world needs.

You can get in contact with me by sending me an email at nicky@intheroom.com and I’ll be happy to answer any queries you may have.

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Much Love

Hi Nick, I am a newcomer to ACA, trying to figure it all out. I’m very happy to have found this group. I read your blog on creative recovery and it touched my heartstrings because I thank God for my creativity, without it, I don’t know how I would have survived. I dedicated my life to giving my handmade items away to family and friends. It gave me a purpose outside of my family. It calmed the voices in my head dealing with my anxiety. I now know the reasons for my insecurities were from my childhood. I continue to create and I will continue to recover.

That’s awesome. You could write something about the benefit of creativity in your healing process. It may inspire others.

  2. Music, the Arts, Creative Writing are a few of the important tools for me in my recovery and I look forward to interacting with you through you into this website to help further it’s reach. I have been a blogger on ITR since I found the site a few years ago.

Thank You so much for creating this and for opening it up for us to help make a difference as well, it is a wonderful thought and I hope it takes off in a positive way.

I am a recovering ACA, a singer/musician, writer, artist-in-general. I’m definitely planning on sharing what I come up with.
Songwriting is taking place right now, and so I’m tapping into some deep emotions.

Thanks so much for reaching out. Look forward to sharing!

  5. Thank you for this! I am an artist and musician looking to connect with other creatives in recovery. How can we submit our work?
