A few months ago I met a
bright warm and sunshiny
new friend. So sizzling was
this encounter that I was
seriously tempted to get a
red cherry popsicle and
share the entire day with
such a blessing.
This confidant had me
thrilled about so many ripe
delicious fruits, long cool
green blades of grass,
shady full leafy trees, slip
on canvas shoes, ponytails,
thin cotton clothes, and
daylight hours lasting forever.
Even on our sleepovers
and starry lit nights there
were bugs crawling near
me undisturbed. Crickets
chirped endlessly with the
sweetest songs.
You know, I did not really
like this kind of playmate
before moving to Parowan.
Not in the least. Been long
ago since high school daze
and surf crashing the
beach sand since I
befriended this type.
Once again we
daydreamed whilst listening
to the sound of distant fans
sprinklers. We eagerly
awaited the sunflowers
to pop up near fence poles
and sides of asphalt or dirt
roads.
What an amazing scent the
air had for months.
Everything tasted fresh and
better than before. The
grass felt like a cool satin
sheet beneath me.
Today school began in
Parowan and my dear
playmate is nearing the end
of our relationship for now.
Crispy cooler air has slowly
dimmed the hours closer to
nightfall.
My new best mate will soon
fade to memory.
See you next year Summer.
