Each month, In the Rooms and Seeking Integrity Treatment Centers present an online Super Saturday Recovery Summit. These events have proven to be an overwhelming success, with three experts on recovery discussing and answering questions on topics related to both early and longer-term sobriety and healing.
Our first Super Saturday Recovery Summit of 2021 is set for Saturday, January 23rd. Presenters at this month’s summit include Kelley Gunter, Kelly McDaniel, and Dr. Rob Weiss.
Kelley Gunter, 1 p.m. Eastern
Fast Weight Fix: Weight Loss Surgery & Cross-Addiction – Tipping the Scales in Your Favor
Kelley Gunter has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in counseling. Following a lengthy career in social services, she began writing full-time. Her first book, You Have Such a Pretty Face, details the emotional journey of being obese and the surprising changes brought on by her 243-pound weight loss, as well as the emotional factors (including childhood abuse) that contributed to her initial weight gain. She is currently in the process of writing her second memoir, The Homecoming Queen of Crazy Town. In this Super Saturday session, Kelley will discuss weight loss surgery and its impact on and interaction with addiction.
Kelly McDaniel, 3 p.m. Eastern
Mother Hunger
Kelly McDaniel is a licensed professional counselor and author who specializes in treating women who experience addictive relational patterns. A pioneer in her field, Kelly is the first clinician to name Mother Hunger as an attachment injury and to explore the repercussions of bonding to an emotionally compromised mother. Kelly teaches workshops and speaks to audiences nationwide on this topic. She is a frequent podcast guest, and her groundbreaking work is being used at several treatment centers around the country. In this Super Saturday session, Kelly will discuss Mother Hunger, focusing on how addicts can understand and heal from lost nurturance, protection, and guidance.
Dr. Rob Weiss, 5 p.m. Eastern
Why Is Sex Better When I’m High?
Dr. Rob Weiss is Chief Clinical Officer of Seeking Integrity LLC, working with sex, porn, and substance/sex addicted men. He is an expert in the treatment of adult intimacy disorders and related addictions. A clinical sexologist and practicing psychotherapist, he serves as a subject matter expert for major media outlets including CNN, NPR, The New York Times, and Newsweek, among others. He is the author of 10 books, including Prodependence, Sex Addiction 101, and Out of the Doghouse. His podcast, Sex, Love, & Addiction, has more than 550,000 downloads since its inception in 2019. In this Super Saturday session, Dr. Rob will discuss the interplay of addictive substances and sexual behavior.
