UNM Seeking Participants in Early Recovery for a Research Study

We, researchers at the University of New Mexico Center on Alcohol, Substance use, And Addictions (CASAA), are conducting a daily diary study of social connections and recovery. Daily diary studies ask participants to answer questions about their daily experiences each day. In our study, participants answer questions about their social interactions, recovery experiences, and feelings.

Prior research suggests that social relationships are critical in the recovery process. That’s why we are reaching out to In The Rooms members to evaluate social interactions at the daily level. The importance of social connection and relationships was highlighted during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic: we want to keep up the momentum on this line of research. Your participation as a person in early recovery will help us to better understand how different kinds of social interactions influence recovery.

What Participation in the Study Involves

Participation in our study involves a meeting with our study team for a brief Zoom appointment, a one-time 60-minute online survey, and a brief daily-diary survey to be completed each evening for 90-days. Survey questions include items related to substance use, social wellbeing, and your thoughts and feelings. Those who complete all elements of the study receive $330 in gift cards for their time. Participation is limited to adult residents of the U.S.
