Or maybe I should ask..."What is God?" And the answer is: I have no earthly clue. I have no earthly clue because my mortal brain cannot comprehend what GOD is! However, I have begun to understand WHAT and WHO God is over the past weeks and months. In our childhood, we may have been taught that "God" watches over us and He wants us to do good things, spread love, and help those in need. Or we may have been taught that there IS no "God," because there is so much bad in the world - and if there is so much bad in this world, how could there possibly be a "loving" deity that has everyone's best interest in His control? Or perhaps we grew up with nothing...maybe we were just taught to be good, be nice, work, and don't get arrested. **Please note - these are my own VERY surface takeaways from my studies of religion and my own understanding. If anyone would like to enlighten me, I welcome it, but I will not entertain criticism** The God of Abraham is what I believe "most" people picture when they think about God. In Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, this is what God is. God sent prophets in Abraham, Moses, Jesus to be more personally connected to Him. Christianity takes this a step further and worships Jesus, God's Son. He came to earth to die for human sin. Buddhists do not have a deity, so to speak, but adopt the idea that we can be enlightened through the supernatural connection to the energy around us - there is no soul; we have no "fixed" destiny determined by a supernatural force. Pagan religions believe in multiple Gods working together to bring human beings closer to nature, as we are, in fact, part of nature. There are those who worship Gods and Goddesses and are described as "heathens," though western culture has put a very negative connotation into that description. So. WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOD?! To me, God is ALL of these things and more. I have no conception, no inkling, no idea how to describe God, and in our very limited, human brains, we have to try to come up with SOMETHING!!! And I think that's totally okay. My idea of God is my own - no one else's. I worship Him, Her, They and know I am in His, Her, Their will because my life breeds light and I am prospering. I have earthly struggles - right now I have $4 in my bank account, I could stand to lose a few more pounds, I have children who misbehave in class and I don't know how to best reach them, it is HUMID in Houston today. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuttttttttt......that's about it, guys. My spirit is intact, my heart is protected, my mind is focused, my will is in line with who my "God" is. I didn't answer the question, but maybe I helped someone unlock a different way of thinking of the omnipotent, white-bearded man on a cloud. God could be that, too, couldn't He? The fact is that God is here, as I type this. God is with me. God wants the best for me. It's really that simple, no matter how marred the idea of God may have been through human thinking.
